In January, CARLO GAVAZZI announced the expansion of the popular range of PD30 miniature photoelectric sensors. The PD30 Basic Series features improved accuracy and a simplified set-up via potentiometer. It also adds a background suppression version for diffuse sensing applications.

The background suppression version uses a brand new Active Pixel Sensor 64×1 CMOS array which improves the accuracy of the detection of different colors by measuring the angle of the returned light, rather than the strength. This allow for a tighter gap between the sensing target and the background. These sensors are designed for applications where high precision detection in a compact area is required, thus allowing users to obtain an excellent size to performance ratio.

In February, CARLO GAVAZZI announced our new and improved CA12CLC Series capacitive sensors with Tripleshield™ technology. The new design features a state of the art microprocessor which improves the overall accuracy and performance of the sensor.

The M12 barrel makes the sensor compact enough to fit in a variety of applications, while still being robust enough to survive most environments. It’s well suited for applications in the plastic, rubber, glass, and ceramic industries, material handling, and packaging applications.

Also in February, CARLO GAVAZZI announced an addition to the latest generation of our PA18 Series photoelectric sensors in the popular M18 housing. The PA18CAD…WS Series features a wider detection angle and shorter blind zone.

The PA18CAD…WS Series sensors are designed for Material Handling and Packaging, Food & Beverage, HVAC, Packaging & Wrapping, Plastic & Rubber, and Agriculture applications.

In March, CARLO GAVAZZI proudly announced our new RGC2 and RGC3 Series of 3-phase switching solid state relays and contactors. They are an addition to our existing RGC1 single phase series of solid state relays and contactors, providing an innovative solution for 2 and 3-pole switching of 3-phase loads.

The product is intended to replace electromechanical contactors when switching speeds are quite frequent. Their compact size, easy installation and flexible configuration make these devices the ideal solution, especially when retrofitting. The RGC Series of solid state relays and contactors are designed for switching resistive as well as inductive loads and are UL Listed as Motor Controllers. Reliable operation is ensured by means of the integrated overvoltage protection, high I2t ratings and immunity conformance to industrial standards. Additionally, an innovative thermal design improves the product lifetime.

The new UA..CAD Series brings longer sensing ranges, a smaller housing, and more flexible outputs, all while simplifying the installation and programming. With both analog and switching options, this new series is capable of taking on the most difficult distance and level sensing applications.

The new UA..CAD Series is an updated version of our very popular UA..CLD Series of ultrasonic sensors. The added features and increased flexibility open the sensor up to a variety of applications in many industries – including material handling, food & beverage, HVAC, packaging, plastics, agriculture, and automotive.

In May, CARLO GAVAZZI announced the enhancement to our popular ICB Series Inductive Proximity Sensors, which are now certified for use in hazardous environments.

Certifications for use in hazardous environments:

By Division: Class I, Div 2, Groups A, B, C, and D. Class I: Hazardous locations with presence of flammable gases or vapors. Division 2: Hazardous atmospheres only present under fault conditions and only for very short periods of time. Group A, B, C and D: Groups of explosive gases (Acetylene, Hydrogen, Ethylene and Propane).


By Zone: Class I: Hazardous locations with presence of flammable gases or vapors. Zone 1: Hazardous atmospheres may be present under normal operation, but only for short periods of time (intermittently). AEx d/Ex d: Flameproof devices (AEx d for USA, Ex d for Canada). IIB+H2: Group of explosive gases (Hydrogen, Ethylene, valid also for group IIA – Propane).

Last month, CARLO GAVAZZI launched the DMPU Series Motor Protection System. The DMPU is a modular electronic motor protection relay to control, monitor and protect the performance of 3-phase constant or dual speed, AC induction motors. The DMPU device measures electrical motor variables (voltage, current, harmonic distortion, power, energy and earth leakage current), monitoring overloads through the thermal model, controlling them and measuring other variables, such as motor and bearing temperature. Finally it includes a data logger function for storing trends of the electrical variables, alarms and fast data logging for storing start-up profiles.

Through the communication features, it is possible to transmit all monitored variables to a supervision control system for data collection and process control. Profibus and Modbus TCP/IP protocols are available to easily insert the DMPU Series into a majority of applications. The HMI operator interface is freely programmable and can show instantaneous values and alarm messages. Windows based DMPU-PS configuration and monitoring software, simplifies plant design through graphic block configuration and connection, where the blocks are all the variables that can be used, as inputs, outputs, ANSI function, electrical and temperature variables, logical functions, timers and counters.

Earlier this month, CARLO GAVAZZI launched the latest addition to our full line of scroll compressor soft starters: the 55, 70 and 95Amp RSBT and RSBD Series. The growing market of heat pumps and the global drive towards a reduction in CO2 emissions are contributing to a steady growth of low-consumption and energy efficient HVAC systems. OEMs understand the need to reduce high starting currents of compressor used in such systems so as to minimize voltage fluctuations and light flickering.

The new, higher amperage, RSBT and RSBD Series of 3 and 2- phase controlled scroll compressor soft starters are the extension of the existing RSBT Series to cover most existing scroll compressor ratings available in the market. Equipped with the patented auto-adaptive algorithm, an optimized inrush current reduction with every start, achieved without any user setting is a simpler product to deploy and operate. Without a need for any external sensors, soft starters offer a number of built-in diagnostic functions to protect the user’s system against potentially harmful conditions such as wrong phase sequence and locked rotor condition.

Blending automation and IT protocols, the 750-885 Media Redundancy Controller increases network availability (redundancy) and data collection options (SD Card). It features dual, independent Ethernet interfaces and 1MB of data memory. SD Card provides up to 32GB of extra memory for back-up-and-restore, file transfer and time-stamping/data-logging.

Dual functionality gives 750-885 a wide application scope, including:

WLAN Wireless Ethernet Gateways

As Ethernet cable substitutes, the IP65 WLAN Wireless Ethernet Gateways economize machine-to-machine networking. The 758-916 (2.4 GHz) and 758-917 (5 GHz) Wireless Ethernet Gateways (WEGS) pair with each other or another Access Point of the same radio tech. Each transmits data up to 1,300 ft (400M) line-of-sight, targeting applications that may have been previously impossible or prohibitively expensive.

MODULAR MOTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM

May 2013 – CARLO GAVAZZI is proud to launch the DMPU Series Motor Protection System. The DMPU Series allows protection of the motor against damage due to thermal effect taking place during overload condition. The protection trips when motor temperature exceeds calculated TCU parameter as well as optional temperature measurements and electrical variables. The DMPU implements several ANSI functions to protect motor from operation that may damage it. For example ANSI 46 (motor inverse current), ANSI 51 LR and ANSI 48 (locked or stalled rotor) and ANSI 46 (earth leakage) are among few that are supported. All control functions such as start, stop, reverse, star-delta control and alarm indication are possible with push buttons, touch screen HMIs or communications.
